KRIK Kalaset 2017 – if I had to sum it up in one word, it would definitely be “encouraging”. We were invited to join KRIK-Kalaset and learn from our sisters and brothers in Sweden how and what they, you, do to support your local group leaders. And what we learned was really encouraging.
When we (that is I, the secretary-general of KRIK Finland and Kari, our active KRIK-member) arrived to Skövde, we felt ourselves welcome right from the start. Everybody smiled at us, talked to us and asked questions about KRIK Finland. We as Finns have always seen ourselves as a “lillebror” of Sverige and that is how we felt during our time in Kalaset. We were taken care of with love like an older brother takes care of the younger one. It was pure love.
The culture in KRIK Sverige is something you have clearly been working for. Nobody is left alone, everybody has a contribution to give and one gets a feeling that everybody is valued because of who he or she is, not because of what he or she does. That is the KRIK-culture we want to take with us to Finland as well. But it is not only KRIK-culture, it is also and above all the Kingdom culture. “Jag ber att de alla skall vara ett, och att såsom du, Fader, är i mig och jag i dig, också de skall vara i oss, för att världen skall tro att du har sänt mig.” (Joh. 17:21) We felt that this was true not only in Kalaset but in local groups as well. And that is awesome! Because in this life it is not eventually about me but God on a mission.
What I liked a lot was that there were plenty of time for physical activities. And with small adjustments to basic rules in some sport, e.g. in football, it was easy to play with everyone in the same time. All the games and little competitions kept things interesting throughout the sessions.
I think that the balance between physical and spiritual, rest and work, alone and together was very good in KRIK-Kalaset. If I were a local group leader in Sweden I’m sure I would have got a lot to take with me from Kalaset. For example I liked a lot when we had these short seminars: circa 17 minutes teaching repeated three times in a sports hall with different subjects in every corner of the hall. Practical, merciful, encouraging. And it took only one hour.
All in all, KRIK-Kalaset encouraged us a lot to continue building KRIK Finland. We have now some 50 members, we’ve had our first “staff camp”, yearlong KRIK-line is on its way and first local groups have started their work. We are excited because of what has already happened and what is to come. And what blesses us a lot is that we know we are not alone in this. Working side by side with you is something I feel answeres Jesus’ prayer in the gospel of John: “that all of them may be one”.
Grateful, praying for KRIK Sverige,
